The easiest way for car battery replacement is to buy a new battery that has the same size with the old battery. However, you will have to prepare for situation that the shop is out of the size you need. Here we tell you how many types of car batteries available for sale in the market as well as each sizes and their usage.

Car battery sizes refer to the width, height, and length of the battery. Generally, there are five battery group sizes for different kind of cars. Every car has different battery tray. Always keep in mind that small battery can fit into big battery tray but big size battery is unable to fit in small battery tray. However, the best way to know your car battery size is to check the owner’s manual. The battery group sizes are:

1. Size 75

Battery size 75 is one of the most common car batteries for majority cars especially GM cars. Most of the cars like Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac are in this group size.

2. Size 65

Battery size 65 often is for bigger size car such as Ford trucks, Lincoln cars, and Mercury cars.

3. Size 35

Always remember that size 35 is mostly for Japanese cars. The latest Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and Suzuki mostly use size 35 car battery. Some European cars like Audi, Alfa Romeo, and mid-size Mercedes-Benz is also using the same size battery.

4. Size 34

If you own Chrysler cars, the battery size is mostly in group 34.

5. Size 34/78

Size 34/78 has two sets of terminals. One set the positive (+) is at right hand side and negative (-) is at left hand side. Another set is reverse. This design is to fit some Chrysler cars and some is for GM cars.

If you do not have the owner’s manual for your car, you can give the car model and model year of your car to your local auto parts store. They will be able to give you the correct battery size. On the other hand, you can also check on your original battery. Often you can find the group size printed on the top or size of the battery.
