SEAT is acronym for Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo which means Spanish Touring Car Company. The company was founded in 1950 by Instituto Nacional de Industria. It is now one of the car brands under Volkswagen group.

The first SEAT car in the marque’s history is the SEAT 1400 that debuted in 1953. It was a big hit at that time and the car was rebranded Fiat 1400. The production of SEAT 1400 last until 1963 and it was replaced by SEAT 1500 and later on SEAT 132.

During early 1960s, SEAT only produced cars for domestic Spanish market. Until 1965, SEAT started to export one of the notable SEAT cars, SEAT 600 to Colombia and two years later to more than twelve different countries. All SEAT models are named using numbers before 1980s such as SEAT 850 Spyder, SEAT 850 Sport Coupe, SEAT 124, SEAT 133, and among others. SEAT Ritmo, SEAT Panda, SEAT Ronda, SEAT Trans, SEAT Fura, SEAT Málaga, SEAT Terra are some of the models born during the 1980s.
