Bro Amit,

You are most welcome, and thank you for reading my thread.

Hehehe... I will always try to find the most cost effective way to do anything. Side effect dari kerja saya.

The only thing I will not compromise is the safety aspect(engine and suspension), especially with Minis.

Regards

Had some time today so spent it completing the mods on the suspension system. To further brace the front absorber mount, welded in a piece of flat bar and drilled additional 4 holes to move the mount higher. This will give the front absorbers more travel and reduce the likelyhood of cracking the inner fender. I did not reinstall the lower bump stop to do this.

The Original mounts

The welded in adjusting screw and nuts onto the angle irons. The stainless steel screws, have somewhat discoloured during welding

I also added a few pieces of duck tape to the rear subframe hole and then sprayed it all black

The rear end painting is the next item on line to be completed. I will do that and then complete the rear subframe assembly. Need to get some kerosene again... and some anti rust primer

I had to lay off the rebuild since July 26 due to commitments with work and Malaysia Mini50. So, after all this, I had a yearning for grease under my fingernails. I also felt bad for neglecting the GT for so long.

Rebuilt the rear radius arms and the hub assembly... All painted cellulose black and high temp black paint.

It then rained so I could not assemble the full subframe. Will have to wait till Friday to do that.

Minilover, won't be using Minifins on the GT though. I have an original unspacered Minifins drums new old stock but I am keeping it as is. I need the spacered drums on my GT setup. Anyway, there will not me much heat buildup in the rear drums as the brakeforce distribution will be set up as 75% front and 25% rear.

The GT will also be using 200kg springs at the rear. I am after the 'cornering on rails' setup for the GT. So ideally, the rear suspension will be somewhat softer than the front. This in effect will give the rear more bite(traction). Neutral to linear understeer. Makes the car 'behave' in the corners and less adverse to weight transfer forces during aggresive cornering. I basically do not want to slide the rear out. Anyway, can't drift in a FWD so might as well make it friendly to drive.

This is the completed subframe showing the springs, the Hi Los, an additional 'lock down' spacer and the nylon material bushings

The subframe with the nylon bushes effectively gives the GT a solid mounted rear end. Adjusta ride cones are used because they have a wider base than the local items. After assembly, I gave the the whole subframe a coat of underseal for more protection from rust and stone strikes

Will have to go shopping later today for more stainless steel screws to replace the mounting screws which have been severly damaged by rust.

Got down to re-tapping the mounting screws for the rear subframe and got myself some high tensile stainless steel screws in 14mm with allen key heads. This will keep the rust away for sometime. Used Loctite on them also.

Luckily my GT body is straight and true. If not I would have had a bitch of a time aligning the subframe with the body and the front subframe. The nylon bushings also makes things a lot tougher to install

After installation was to measure the level and straightness of the front and back again... It took about 2.5 hours to complete the job... and here it is, its in!!

Installed the gear selector assembly(the gear shift) today along with the front and rear shock absorbers. Installed also the sump guard which is essential because I am setting the GT to run close to the road. Close to go-kart settings actually. By calculations, the car floor will be about a coke can height from the ground. Yes, I am nuts.

I only managed to get the pictures of the installed sumpguard as the absorbers were installed later in the day. The unit installed was used by another car with a similar but slightly higher set up and therefore has the bumps and scrapes to prove it's usefulness.
