By right, I should have painted the whole body at one go but because of tight finances, I have had to do it part by part. So biting the bullet, I removed all the screens and the doors and got down to primering the inside to keep the rust away.

As the rear portion of the GT is not done yet (space limitations) I can only cover the floorpans and the bins. The rear section will have to wait till the repairs and mods are done.

Vacummed and wiped down the interior with preparation thinner and tack cloth. Removed the handbrake lever as well

The underside of the body is also given a wipedown

Inside and underside are given a once over with primer

I have not done the roof as yet. The door bins and the rear portion will be done with the roof as the rear section will be repaired starting Monday.

where you do your painting job? May I know what is the price to paint 2 tone (white roof with 2 stripes on bonnet) metallic?

Bro Minilover,

I am doing the prep work and painting myself in a good friend's workshop. No luxury of a spray booth, just a plastic sheet as an overspray protector.

The actual cost of a respray is actually prep time. The cost of coarse and fine epoxy filler, primer, anti-rust, astringent, underseal and clearcoat is only about RM800. All prep materials are from Mercury Paints. Top coat is from Dupont. The prep tools such as spray guns, wide scrapers, plastic applicators, wet and dry sandpaper costs around RM100.

The time put into prepping the car is priceless bacause it will determine how good your Mini looks. As for my GT, I am not too particular about the 'wave-iness' of the paint. I want as little filler used as possible.

As for a decent professional spray job, it can range from RM1800 upwards.

Cheers

This time round, managed to rubbed down and primered the front end. However, due to me unable to filler the car properly, there are still waves however hard I try to smoothen it out. Just cannot get it. Frustrated. So I am leaving it with primer for now.

I moved on to spraying the inside roof skin, dash and the front floorpans before running out of paint again

I have not decided on what to do with the body. If finances permit I think I will send it out to a professional sprayjob on the outside body. I will have to ponder on this matter.

Cheers for now

With the weather being so good on a Sunday, it be a waste to spend it indoors. So, went to the workshop and fitted the subframe, wheels and engine so that I can swap ends of the GT and get to work on the boot pan.

Subframe in with poly bushes up top and front. The floor pans are solid mounted. This will allow for some steering comfort and some movement during hard bumps

After popping the engine in, and some wheels, it was time to swap ends to do the rear

Will have to cut out the rear bottom sections as there are patch repairs and the boot pan as well. The bottom section will be totally replaced with a Japanese item. The whole boot floor will be replaced with a new formed sheet steel

I have completed the rear section wiring loom today. It was a good thing that a cursory check was done. Usually most will not check the rear loom as it hardly gets damaged. There were three wires that were frayed and this would have been a major headache later in time in the form of earth leaks and funny indicator lights

These are original Compomotive 13" X 6 for the Mini. It will need a spacer as the fronts tyres scrapes the inner rear wings.
