Hi all Mini master...

wondering what battery u use for your car?

1) Maintenance free
2) Maintenance not free ( the one have to add water )

Size - NS50, NS60, NS70

Personally I tried NS70 quite nice and u can feel your car full of electric like the car in "Back to the future" hahaha. I tried maintenance free before also but some of the mechanic do not recommend that for Mini, the reason they give is Mini always got electric leakage.

Any idea?

Hi Superminicooper,

As far as I know, Maintainence Free(MF) batteries can be used with no problems. I use them on my Traveller and Clubby with no problem at all. NS70. I am using Varta and Yokohama MF batteries.

Electrical leaks happen when you have a faulty wiring loom or faulty electrical ancillaries. Otherwise, a Mini takes up less current than a modern car. If there is an electrical leak, the cause should be located and resolved immediately otherwise it can lead to an electrical fire. Other than that the only current drain should be the radio, if it is installed.

I personally advocate using a Battery Cut Off Switch. Added security and easier to work on electrical stuff without manually disconnecting the battery.

Cheers

Hi, for me maintenance free MF batery is better for mini, because ordinary acid batery tend to make your batery box rusty. its because acid spilleage sometimes occur when u ride on bumpy road and i'm very sure mini is a bumpy car hehee. rust and even hole in our batery box is a common problem in the old days. so my advice go for dry cell batery. ;)

what a good consideration! we do know the Mini is a bumpy car and the battery box usually are not as strong as new car.. just a dot of the acid from battery will cost a hole. Who knows the whole battery will fall out if the car make a big bump? haha
