Hmmm... I am embarressed! I jumped and screamed when I should have looked through the entire contents including the links of Rachel88's post. It was meant to be a joke to get people to talk about the new MINI.

If it was to illicit a response, it worked. I feel like a fool. I talked about it, I got angry at it and I still don't get the message.... What is this campaign all about? Why did Auto Bavaria carry out this exercise?

Is it to increase the top of mind recall for the MINI? Entice classic Mini Owners to buy the new MINI? Hmmm... I really wonder. It really looks like a seagull campaign. It is called a seagull campaign because it makes a lot of noise for nothing and then craps all over its own weak message and achieves nothing .

I have nothing against the new MINI and actually think it is a decent car. However, this campaign does makes a mockery of the heritage the Classic Mini carries and may turn off potiential buyers of the MINI. The two cars are as different as chalk and cheese. It is like Mitsubishi claiming to the National car of Malaysia(even though technically it is).

I think I get the concept of this campaign(I maybe wrong as the underlying message is very weak) but the execution of this campaign is totally lacking in finesse and is insensitive to part of BMW's own brand.

Hi fatboy_my,

I did not mean to ride on anyone's hard work or take credit for any other celebration... especially not the Malaysian MINI 50 celebrations. I merely thought it was related. I wasn't trying to suggest anything. I don't know if it's meant to be a collaboration. I mean, to me, it's just interesting that MINI is applying for the heritage status, so I just wanted to share that with you guys here. If my intentions were misunderstood, then I'm sorry.

As for what's the campaign about and why Auto Bavaria decided to do something like this... I guess we just have to wait and see? To me, it's just to celebrate the 50th anniversary, and they want to do something fun. (Again, please do not misunderstand me, I'm not linking it with the event you're planning in August)

Anyway, I wish you every success in organising the event in August. It sounds liek a big event. I've read about it online and I've seen the facebook page too... :)

Hi GTmark,

Maybe they are talking about MINI as a brand, and not really the new mini/old mini individually. I have no idea... or maybe it is meant to be hilarious? Haha. I mean, if shah rukh khan can get datukship, who knows what else can happen?

I am kinda blur reading this post...

1.) "MINI is applying for the heritage status" - Is it talking about the Classic Mini (Mini) or the New BMW Mini (MINI) or both?

2.) Who is the organizer? For Mini yes I have heard that SMOC is organizing it. For MINI? Auto Bavaria as stated by Rachel? And the link http://www.miniforheritage.com is to support it?

3.) Last question, I want to support it regardless of Mini or MINI, how can I do that? Shall we open another Topic for this so that all other members will be more clear?

4.) Shall we request moderator to open another section for SMOC group? Can anyone represent SMOC here?

Cheers for Mini or MINI, I love both and I am owning both of it in my family, happily.

Rachel88,

Thank you for the reply. I apologise to you personally also for jumping at the posting.

If it was a collaboration, Mini Owners Group Malaysia would have helped spread the good news. Any sort of activites for Mini/MINI Owners are definately supported. Grassroots wise, it is good to try to bridge the divide between Minis and MINIs. Bearing in mind the sensitivities involved. Lets let this matter rest.

Minilover,

1) It is talking about the New MINI

2) Organising which event? Malaysia Mini 50 or the Heritage status?

Malaysia Mini 50 : Please refer to the beginning of this thread on who is organising this. SMOC maybe organising a similar event but now they have something else on their minds.

3) It is a PR campaign done by Auto Bavaria. Perhaps some Mini owners should speak to them? I do not think another topic is required as the colourful history of the Mini to the MINI is widely available online.

4) Section for SMOC group? Why? I am looking at the rationale behind it... Are all the forummers here NOT Mini/MINI owners and fans? If I am not mistaken, this is an open forum... Furthermore, SMOC has a website and a MySpace page already online. But then again, it is up to the owners/moderators of this forum.

My two sen.

Hi all members,

Yes this is definately an open forum as long as you love Mini or MINI, you own a Mini or you feel like to own a Mini...whatever...

Well, I can create a section for SMOC or any Mini group out there, if anyone needs it just drop me a mail at malaysiaminilover@gmail.com.

Best luck for the Malaysia Mini 50!

Maven
